Wonderful social support online....and big yawn from Aussie print media!

We made the above post to Twitter to hopefully motivate some of the journalists sitting on the fence there (and overwhelmed with all their deadlines, we appreciate). Shouldn't it be BIG news: an all-new cookware industry, using factories desperate to fill the hole from the withdrawing auto industry? Not just newsworthy because Fonte is the ONLY pro cookware made in Australia, but because it is now, we're quietly confident, the world's best cast iron cookware? Wouldn't that gain some column space in the food sections of the Australian newspapers?

You'd genuinely think so.....

We've been very appreciative of the efforts of @JohnLethlean at The Australian. His two articles hugely boosted interest in our Kickstarter launch, and our hopes of making our funding goal by September 21. Social sharing has also grown rapidly, but we're still tracking behind in our funding.

So if you know any journalists, please remind them we've got some historic news that needs mass media print attention.....for Fonte's sake.....and for the sake of a new Australian cookware manufacturing industry!

Check our progress toward the Sept 21 deadline here, and please pledge your support for this once-only FIRST EDITION Fonte pan:

It is only with automation that we can manufacture Fonte pans in Australia and still retail at competitive pricing. The casting is fast and inexpensive, but the clean Australian iron, de-moulding and smoothing, pre-seasoning, packing....not so much!

Be sure to secure your piece of Australian cookware history by pledging for a FIRST EDITION Fonte pan on our Kickstarter project:

Only the Kickstarter edition will be cast with 'FIRST EDITION' in place of 'PROTOTYPE' (regular retail produciton will be cast with 'CAST DATE'). We're making collectible cookware history for our Kickstarter backers!

A new cookware industry for Australia....it's not necessarily cast in iron....

We knew it would be an uphill battle, to create a new innovative cookware brand in a tough and competitive market, starting with cast iron pans (even with innovative pan shapes and handles), manufacturing them in Australia, and launching them on Kickstarter with a real shipping price that sadly excludes the rest of the world (until we find overseas distributors). And yes, it has been tough.

Here's how we're tracking.....

And yes, it has been tough.

But we are so passionate about the bigger vision of creating an innovative new multi-generation brand based on old school values (like quality and contribution to the community) that we launched. This is how it's going.....

Wow, imagine if.....

Just say it was possible to manufacture innovative new world-first cookware and knives in Australia, or the USA.....

But how would it be possible to compete?

Part of the answer is in the first sentence: 'innovative new world-first'. There would be no point launching any 'me too' products, at any end of the market. We'll leave that to the others.

Made in Australia or USA will necessarily not be inexpensive, but it can still be good value if the innovation is powerful enough, there are advantages to locating supply close to customers, quality of materials and reliability of supply can be more trusted.....if the product is so well designed, engineered and made that it lasts for generations (and cost per year becomes almost zero for the investment-minded).

Frankly, we've had enough of society's disposability and waste in the pursuit of cheapness and profits. We want to find followers who are willing to think about their purchases with a long term view for not only their own selves and family, but for the future of their communities and world.

A premium price won't suit every budget, we know. But we're building this business based on the belief that there are enough people willing to invest in the future, in more ways than one.

A family heirloom that you can use every day and pass on from generation to generation? Now that would be great value!
